An imposing antagonist. The plot follows the comic-book storyline and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) is returning. There’salso the hilarious wacky humor that is exclusive to director Taika Waititi. Love and Thunder is a standalone movie that does not perform to the standard of Thor: Ragnarok (2017).

Thor has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade, but his solo films have either missed the mark completely or did not hit the bullseye. While the story of his origins, Thor (2011) was good enough to get the ball rolling, Thor: The Dark World (2013) was an awful entry. Yet, Thor: Ragnarok 2017 will surely be on everyone’s list of top five MCU films. The return of the Hemsworth – Waititi collaboration meant that expectations were high prior to the release.
When Gorr (Bale), who is determined to eliminate gods after being disappointed by one, decides to attacking New Asgard to steal the Stormbreaker, Thor has to stop the god butcher by forming a team with Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), Korg (Waititi) and his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who has turned into Mighty Thor. The plot is simple, unlike Marvel’s previous films and the performances are positive in the film. Hemsworth plays the title character, who is in trouble in her midlife. However, Bale as well as Portman are outstanding. In a testament to Bale’s talents, the pre-title credit scene is. Gorr could have been the next Thanos in the MCU. Bale adds a certain eerieness to the character , but there isn’t much else.
On the other side, Portman, who makes her reentry into the Marvel world following her absence from the previous two Thor films, plays the cancer-afflicted ex-girlfriend chosen by Mjolnir. Marvel seems eager to hand the mantles of Hawkeye and Hulk to female characters. I had hoped that the Mighty Thor would be similar to the checklist for representation. The film tells a touching story of the astrophysicist who is able to show her biceps on more occasions than one.
Marvel is known for its own flexing, too, through all the cameos in the film. We also get to see the Guardians of the Galaxy cast, including Sam Neill and Matt Damon reprise their roles as Thor: Ragnarok’s Loki, Odin and Thor and Thor, respectively. We also get Melissa McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone playing Hela and the director of an Asgardian play, respectively. Waititi has since Ragnarok directed Oscar-winning Jojo Rabbit, is back in his favourite genre. There are hilarious scenes like an emo goat and a noisy one Korg’s narration of Thor’s story, Thor performing leg-splits, and Valkyrie becoming the ambassador for Old Spice…
There’s also the recurring gag of Thor looking for his Mjolnir, but being scared of Stormbreaker’s jealousy. The gags are entertaining, but they’re also a source of deep emotions. They also expose the weak plot. Thor: Love and Thunder is a film that explores many different types of affection, from father-daughter relationships to intricate romances between distant lovers… There is something similar to Gorr losing his respect towards Rapu and Thor getting disillusioned with Zeus (played here by Russell Crowe). These ideas are endless, however…
As always, there are many easter eggs as well as references to movies such as Interstellar and Harry Potter. A scene of Falligar, the dead god, is shown straight from comics. We can see Hemsworth wearing the first of the Thor costumes comic-book readers will recognize. When Thor bares it all during a tussle with Zeus We see a tattoo that says ‘RIP Loki’ with the trickster’s helmet etched on our space Viking’s back. We’re introduced to dark Necrosword and, given that Mjolnir and Stormbreaker appear to possess minds of their own and are able to control their own minds, it’s interesting to observe new weapons that have the ability to manipulate the people.
What we saw using Shang Chi’s ten ring as well as Ms. Marvel’s magical Bangle as well as the Ebony blade from the Eternals post-credits scene. The line “Gods won’t empower you however they will make use of your power” from Marvel’s newest show, Moonknight, feels very similar to the real world. There’s an interesting story about Valkyrie lost her beloved love in battle and Korg finding love with another Kronan man.
The first half of the film reminds us of all the colors we enjoyed in Ragnarok, but much of the second part takes place in the dark world, where everything is monochrome and black. Action scenes that are monochrome are quite enjoyable and should be noted.
Hemsworth will continue to continue to Thor This is a welcome relief for MCU fans who’ve seen the first Avengers die or hang their heads.
